Instructions for Installing WNIGHT, the Windows Retrieval System
These instructions explain how you may install WNIGHT, Night Owl's
supurb Windows based CD-ROM file retrieval system. You must have
Windows 3.1 or later and the installation requires approximately
2 megabytes of free disk space for the program files and data base.
Steps to install WNIGHT:
1. Start Windows.
2. Make the Program Manager active.
3. Select "File" from the Program Manager top menu.
4. Select "Run" from the Program Manager "File" menu.
5. Enter the command "X:\NIGHT\SETUP.EXE" into the command line
entry box, where X is the letter of your CD-ROM drive. For
example, suppose the drive letter for the CD-ROM where you have
placed the Night Owl CD is drive F. Enter the command
"F:\NIGHT\SETUP.EXE".
6. Press <Enter> or click on the <Ok> button to start the Night Owl
Windows install program.
7. Use the "Select" button to select or create a directory for the
night owl files. It is strongly recommended that you use
X:\NIGHT, where X is the drive of your choice.
8. Click on the "Install" to start the installation. After the
appropriate files have been copied from the CD to your hard
drive, a Night Owl program group will be automatically created
for you.
Note:
SETUP.EXE must be executed from your Night Owl CD-ROM or it will
not function.
Night Owl may be installed manually. To do so, follow these steps:
1. Create the following directory structure:
X:\NIGHT
X:\NIGHT\TEXT?? (where ?? is the release number)
X:\NIGHT\WORK
X:\NIGHT\UNZIP
2. Copy SETUP.EXE, WNIGHT.HLP, WNIGHT.INI, & SKY16V3B.DLL to
X:\NIGHT.
3. Rename SETUP.EXE to WNIGHT.EXE.
4. Copy all the files in R:\NIGHT\TEXT to X:\NIGHT\TEXT19, where
R is the CD-ROM drive and X is the hard drive.
5. Edit the sample WNIGHT.INI so that the entris reflect the
proper drive designators.
